A Fanlisting?

According to TFL:

A fanlisting is a web clique that lists fans of a particular subject. Unlike most web cliques, a person does not need a web site in order to join. Fans from around the world submit their information to their approved fanlisting and they are then listed to show their love for the subject.

That's about right, so I didn't think to change it.

Tainted Youth

Think 19th-century London, aristocrats in all their well-groomed glory, witty repartees as plentiful as...something really plentiful (blades of grass?), and of course, the pivotal point of the book, eternal youth. Now let Oscar Wilde have a whack at it, and the rather off-putting circumstances combine to form a classic novel that was even required reading at my high school. I admire the man, I like Dorian--wait, no I don't, I like Basil. Even if he likes Dorian. But despite the fact that the preening pretty boy was the star of the show, the book didn't degrade to a paperweight. How? Lots and lots of cutting remarks.

So the situation is thus: Dorian Gray is a beautiful man, so aesthetically appealing that everyone--and I do mean everyone, mainly the male characters the novel features--sits up and takes notice. And at first, he is delightfully unaware of his effect on people...but then, disaster strikes! Dorian engages in a Faustian bargain and suddenly his physical beauty gains the ability to conquer time, while his soul, age, crimes, purple monkey, what-have-you, is on display in a portroit painted in his prime (by his lovely friend Basil). Hence the imaginative title. But don't worry. The book's not as straightforward as that.

Capturing the Novel

It was kind of hard to make a design without any good pictures of Dorian Gray. Sure, I could have used bookjackets, but they mainly featured that extremely disquieting painting done to the novel's title. I didn't want a disfigured man scaring all my (3) visitors away. So I did what I did best--red, black, and white, and lots and lots of stock photography. Done in CSS and divs; best in Firefox (IE has that stupid glitch in it) at 800x600 or above.
